An artificial limb or body part; sometimes called a prosthetic
Prosthesis
The removal of a breast, usually due to cancer; can be either complete or partial
Mastectomy
A birth defect by which the child is born without a limb or body part
Congenital
Diabetes or vascular disease causing poor blood flow to a limb, resulting in amputation
Disease
Car accident, war time injury, or extreme temperature causing frostbite, resulting in amputation
Trauma
The inability to partially or totally empty the bladder
Urinary retention
Breast cancer, resulting in mastectomy
Tumor
A wax cone that is inserted into the rectum to aid in a bowel movement
Suppository
The ureters are detached from the bladder and then attached to a segment of bowel, one end of which extends outside of the abdominal wall, allowing urine to drain to the outside of the body
Urostomy
An opening that protrudes from the abdomen connecting an internal organ to the outside of the body
Stoma
One end of the large intestine is drawn outside of the abdominal wall for the passage of stool
Colostomy
One end of the small intestine is drawn outside of the abdominal wall for the passage of stool
Ileostomy
Hidden blood
Occult Blood
Red, obvious blood
Frank blood
