Acute care facility
An entity that accredits and surveys most acute care facilities in the United States.
Joint commission
Otherwise known as a nursing home, it offers care for residents needing skilled- nursing care for a substantial length of time.
Long-term care facility
The Omnibus budget reconciliation act of 1987, which issued many mandates in regard to care for residents, resident rights, and the training requirements for nursing assistants.
OBRA
A nursing home volunteer who helps protect the rights of the nursing home residents by investigating complaints or reports of violations of resident rights.
Ombudsman
A facility that bridges the gap between living independently and living in a health care facility such as a nursing home.
Assisted- living community
An acronym for community- based residential facility, a type of assisted- living community.
CBRF
Regulated assisted-living facilities and respite- care facilities.
State government
Regulates and allocates Medicare and Medicaid funding to home healthcare agencies and hospice organizations through outcomes and documentation.
Federal government
An acronym for residential care apartment complex, a facility comparable to senior apartment residences that offers minimal care.
RCAC
Specialty end-of- life care for induvial who have less than 6 months to live
Hospice
Services that provide a safe and stimulating environment for older adults or developmentally disabled residents over the age of 18, normally during daytime hours
Respite care
The skills, the responsibilities, and the actions that you are permitted and expected to follow once your training has been completed.
Scope of practice
A hierarchical route of communication from one member of the healthcare team to the next that must be followed at all times.
Chain of command
An action or job that a supervisor, usually a nurse, asks you to complete either verbally or by means of a written care plan.
Delegated task
Entitlements; beliefs or laws that provide freedom to act in certain ways.

Responsibility
Legislation created in 1970 that ensures that all employees have safe and healthy working conditions.
Occupational safety and health administration (OSHA)
A law that allows an employee to take a leave of absence from the his job for a total of 12 weeks out of the 12 month period for certain medical needs without he risk of losing his job.
Family and medical leave act (FMLA)
