  1. Automated Traffic Violations - failure to satisfy 5 or more unpaid automated traffic violations (red light signal, speeding, a combination of both)
  2. Causing a Crash in a Construction Zone
  3. Child Visitation Abuse
  4. Drug/Alcohol Test Failure
  5. Drug/Alcohol Test Refusal
  6. Drug/Sex Offense (Commiting a drug/sex crime while operating or being near automobile)
  7. Failure to Appear Violations
  8. Failure to Obey a Railroad-Crossing Signal
  9. Failure to Pay Child Support
  10. Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle Using Audible and Visual Signals (lights and sirens)
  11. Fradulent Driver’s License/ID Application
  12. Illegal Possession, Consumption, Purchase of Alcohol, or Accepting Alcohol as a Gift by a person under age 21
  13. Illegal Trasportation of Alcohol
  14. Illegal Transportation Under 21
  15. Mandatory Insurance Violation - Failure to file Financial Responsibility Insurance (SR-22)
  16. Mandatory Insurance Conviction - driving without mandatory insurance
  17. Parking Violations - Failure to pay 10 or more unpaid parking violations in any municipality
  18. Railroad Crossing Violation - nonpayment of 5 or more violations
  19. School Bus Violations - not for stopping for school bus, nonpayment of 5 or more violations
  20. Speeding in a Construction Zone - 2nd violation, when workers are present, within 2 yrs

  22. Tollway Violation - nonpayment of 5 or more toll violations
  23. Traffic Crashes - refusal or neglect to report a traffic crash
  24. Traffic Violations - 3 traffic violation conviction during a 12 month period (Under age 21, 2 traffic violations within any 24-month period)
  25. Unauthorized Parking in a Space Designated for Persons with Disabilities
  26. Uninsured Crashes - being uninsured at the time of crash - you are at fault and you are to pay for damages
  27. Zero Tolerance Violation - an alchocol violation by a person under age 21

Cancellation - termination by formal action of the Secret of State’s Office

Reasons for Cancellations

  • error or deficit in the license
  • Ineligible - the licensee is no longer entitled to such license
  • Medical condition - medically/visually unfit
  • Re-examination requirement - failure to appear for a required re-examination
  • Fraudulent application

Reapplication for a driver’s licese many be made only after the terms of the cancellation have been met.

Special Driving Permits

  • Restricted Driving Permit (RDP)
  1. only during certain times and along specified routes for work-related/educational purposes
  2. transporting a child in the home to and from day care/school
  3. receive medicare care or drug treatments
  • Monitoring Device Driving Permit (MDDP)
  1. issued to 1st time DUI offender, serving statutory summary suspension
  2. for Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID)
  3. MDDP & BAIID —> allowing driver to legally operate motor vehicle at any time of day/night
  4. CANNOT be issued to persons under age 18
  • Occupational Driving Permit (ODP)
  1. issued to professional drivers - whose licenses suspended for 3 moving violations
  2. allowing to drive in conjuction with employment
  3. DOES NOT apply to commercial drivers
  • Probationary License
  1. issued in conjuction with driver improvement activity
  2. issued for suspension period for drivers ages 21 and over
  3. Only issued for person suspended for 3 moving violations in 12-month period
  4. CANNOT be issued for more than 3 months
  • ​Family Financial Responsibility Driving Permit (FRP)
    1. issued to drivers - suspended under the Family Financial Responsibility Law for nonpayment of child support or for child visitation abuse
