elevating our own group over others when comparing
Ethnocentrism
Thinking in terms of “we” and “them.” Negative labeling of people who fall outside of one’s own group.
othering
A theoretical orientation that:
Focuses on people’s actions as expressions of their worldview and their ethos
Seeks to explain what people do in the face of embedded ideologies
Explores different meanings for things we take for granted and variation in the social environment
Practice orientation
way of ascribing status, prestige, and power based on education, income, and occupation
social class
Listen and learn Speak up Engage service users in decisions Listen and believe Consider physical and symbolic space Embrace the unfamiliar Monitor your words and reactions Ask. Treat clients as the expert
Anti-oppressive practice
Giving everybody the same thing as to make them equal

Making sure everybody gets what they need (some need more help and others need less) to have equal opportunities
