- May not yet know how to weigh interests, capacities, and values - beginning stages.
- Making a contribution to the world and a credit to society are factors that may now be considered.

A
Transition period - reality conditions play an important role in career choice.
- They know the seriousness of the decision and that they must choose.
- Considerations of salary, education required, and working conditions more important than they were 2 years before.

A
- Diffusion - having few clear ideas about what one wants for the future and not being concerned about the future. Living in the present rather than thinking about more schooling or type of work.

A
- Moratorium - period of time when someone explores options while seeking direction. Most effective when spend doing meaningful activity. Often occurs between high school and college or time-out from college.

- Foreclosure - making a choice, often based on family tradition, without exploring other options.

- Achievement - knowing what one wants and making plans to attain an occupational goal. Considering past experiences to decide about the future.
