chapter 8 Flashcards
NTP?
NTP: network time protocol - used to synchronize time across devices. helpful for log file comparison.
OOB?
OOB: out of band- network.
SNMP?
SNMP: Simple Network Managment Protocol
how does SNMP work?
simple Network Managment Protocol works by the use of a SNMP manager device (application layer) and AGENTS (nodes) “set and get” commands are used to collect or set commands/info. port 162 is used (UDP)
MIB?
MIB: managment information base. storage of NTP and SNMP errors/ data within the node/device. local storage.
NMS?
NMS: Network Management system: network admins use computers with software that communicated with agents (nodes, network devices) and those agent MIB (managment info base) tables to get information about erors, cpu cycles, etc.
NMS? graphs used for?
NMS Network Management systems communicate with agents and gather cpu load, error info ,etc. to then provide graphs/ charts for network admins. helpful for admins to determine needed upgrades or problems.
what does netflow do?
is a cisco technology used by network IT to, collect ip data from networks. works better for ip data than SNMP. *targets specific statistical information.
ingress?
incoming packets on an interface
egress?
outgoing packets on an interface
