Chapter 1_part-1 Flashcards
Hierarchy?
hierarchical network model
Modularity?
functions of network broken down into modules like: enterprise campus, service block, data center, internet edge.
resiliency?
network is available under both normal and abnormal conditions.
Flexibility:
portions of the network can be modified easily.
flat switched network is what?
when a network only uses layer 2 devices. (switches… cause bottleneck when many devices are connected due to broadcasts.)
Distribution layer?
policy based connectivity. boundary between access core layers.
collapsed core design?
the distribution and core are one layer while the access is another.
access layer functions?
poe, qos, address resolution protocol, vlan and spanning tree.
types of devices used in core layer and why?
fast switching technology like: cisco 6500 or 6800 switches. avoids using cpu intensive packet manipulation such as qos, that should be provided at the distributional layer.
access distribution module is what?
the fundamental component of a campus design. (Distribution block)
module: services- is what?
block used to identify services like: wireless controllers, policy gateways and more.
module: data center - is what?
contains all the business operations data. server farm
module: enterprise edge?
internet/ connectivity outside the enterprise for internet, voice, etc.
Cisco Enterprise Architecture model purpose?
provides modular network design while also using the cisco hierarchical model.
Cisco Enterprise Architecture module types?
enterprise: campus, edge and service provider edge.
Cisco enterprise edge consists of what and what function does it provide?
The enterprise edge module provides connectivity for voice, video, and data services outside the enterprise. these services come from sub modes into the campus core in the enterprise campus.
Enterprise edge sub models include?
e-commerce networks and servers, internet connectivity and demilitarized zone (DMZ), Remote access/ VPN and WAN.
Service provider edge provides what?
service provider connections sometimes with redundancy or fail over connections like: dual-homed or single-homed.or multiple ISP’s.
dual-homes means what?
service provider edge: 2 or more connections to a single isp.
single homed means what?
one connection to a isp.
what is multi-homed and where is it used in the cisco enterprise architecture?
service edge provider portion of the enterprise architecture: multi-homes is when more than one ISP (internet service provider) is connected to an enterprise via one connection each.
what is Dual-Multihomed and where is it used in the enterprise architecture?
multiple connections to 2 or more ISP(internet service providers) in the service provider module of the enterprise architecture.
Remote functional area- of the enterprise architecture?
remote connectivity options for employees in the Enterprise Architecture. allows access to business resources and data
what are the sub-models of the Remote functional area in the enterprise architecture?
Enterprise branch
Enterprise Teleworker (work from home)
Enterprise Data Center
