Chapter 8 Flashcards
When a>0 and 0<b><1, the function y=ab^x is represented. When this happens, it decreases by the same percent over equal time periods. The model is as follows: y=a(1-r)^t.</b>
Exponential decay.
Interest that is weaned on both an initial investment and in previously earned interest.
Compound interest
A function of the form y=ab^x where a does not equal zero, b>0, and b does not equal 1.
Exponential function.
When a>0 and b>1, the function y=ab^x represents this. When a quantity grows exponentially, it increases by the same percent over equal time periods. The model is as follows. Y=a(1+r)^t.
Exponential growth.
The power of 10 nearest the quantity.
Order of magnitude.
A number in the form of Cx10n where 1<10 and n is an integer.
