Chapter 3 Vocabulary Flashcards
Equations that have the same solution(s)
Equivalent equations
Two operations that undo each other (addition and subtraction are inverse operations and multiplication and division are inverse operations)
Inverse operations
An equation that is true for all values of the variable
Identity
A comparison of two numbers using division. The ratio of a and b where b does not equal 0, can be written as a to b, a:b, or a/b.
Ratio
An equation that states that two ratios are qui alert a/b=a/c where b and d does not equal 0
Proportion
In a proportion, a cross product is the product of the numerator to one ration and the denominator of the other ratio. The cross products of a proportion are equal.
Cross product
A two dimensional drawing of an object in which the dimensions if the model are in proportion to the dimensions of the object
Scale drawing
A three dimensional model of an object in which the dimensions of the model are in proportion to the dimensions of the object
Scale model
A ratio that relates the dimensions of a scale drawing or scale model and the actual dimensions
Scale
An equation in which letters are used to replace the coefficients and constants of another equation
Literal equation
