Chapter 8 Flashcards
What is a construct?
An attribute, trait or characteristic that in itself is not directly observable but can only be inferred by looking at observable behaviors
What is a behavior?
Actions that are observable and measurable.
What are the steps for construct explication?
3pts
- Identify behaviors that relate to construct
- Identify other related constructs
- Identify behaviors related to other constructs
Construct validity- what is convergent evidence of validity?
If the test is measuring a particular construct, we expect the scores on the test to strongly correlate with scores on another test measuring the same or similar constructs
What is discriminant evidence of validity?
2pts
When the test scores do not correlate with unrelated constructs.
- Two different tests should not correlate
What are factors?
Are scales or subscales in a test
- Explains why certain questions on a test are correlated
An advanced procedure based on the concept of correlation that helps investigators explain why items within a test are correlated or why two different tests are correlated.
Factor analysis
What is exploratory factor analysis?
You don’t know what you are actually going to get- you’re exploring
–> Will tell you which items go in which factor
What is confirmatory factor analysis?
You already have an idea of which items belong is which factors, you just want to confirm
Refers to the amount of gain in predictive value obtained using a particular test.
What type of validity is this?
Incremental validity
