Direct ground lift
Patients lying supine with no suspected spinal injury
Performed by 2 to 3 providers
Extremity lift
Patients lying supine or sitting with no suspected spinal injury
Helpful when patient is in narrow space or not alot if room
Bariatrics
Medicine concerned with management of obesity and allied illness
Lifting
2 EMTs for 120-220 lbs
4 EMTs for 250+ lbs
Backboard
Used to restrict spinal motion while patient is in supine position.
Carried by 4 people in a diamond position, head, feet, and sides
Stair chair
Only use when patient is conscious and is able to sit. Place wheeled stretcher at the base of the stairs.
Emergency moves
Patient is dragged and pulled from a dangerous science before assessment and care are provided.
Protecting the spine is secondary, remove by 1) clothes drag 2) blanket drag 3) arm drag 4) arm to arm drag
Rapid extraction technique
Move patient from sitting position inside a vehicle to supine on a backboard in less then 1 minute if not able to do standard mobilization.
Direct Ground Lift
Used for patients lying supine on the ground with no spinal injuries, if semi prone on the side, first roll the patient.
Extremity lift
Can be used if no extremity or spinal injuries for patients in supine or sitting position. May be helpful is patient is in a narrow space
Direct carry
Transfer supine patient from bed to stretcher.
