Informal communications refer to the informal network of communications that exists within every organisation and industry

Ability to speak clearly, listen carefully, give and receive feedback, write clearly and concisely, to read and understand communications, select the best medium for the communication and to use information and communication technologies (ICT) effectively
How must communications between internal stakeholders work?
Employees and managers must make sure correct work is done, managers must be able to communicate relevant information and investors must be supplied with accurate information about the business
Communication with external stakeholders
Customers should be kept informed of new product development, suppliers need to be kept informed of the firm’s supply needs, businesses need to communicate with government agencies and society must know about what are the business’s interests.
What is communication medium?
Communication medium refers to the actual method used to send the message or data
What are external communications used for?
External communications are used to communicate with people outside the business, such as customers, suppliers, investors, government and the general public
What are internal communications used for?
Internal communications are used to communicate between staff in the same business

Advertising, letters to customer or telephone calls to suppliers

Communication channels are the routes in an organisation through which information flows between people.
What are upward communications?
Upward communications refer to staff reporting up the chain of command to their supervisors and managers
What are downward communications?
Downward communications are messages sent down the chain of command from managers to their subordinates

Horizontal communications travel between people of the same rank and authority in the chain of command
