Intellectual Developmental Disorders
IDD definition
Individual differences in intellectual development. Intellectual functioning deficits and deficits in adaptive behaviour.
Prevalence of IDD
1-2% of population More prevalent among boys.
Cause of IDD
Organic causes are specific physiological origin, genetic and environmental. Non-organic causes are familial pattern and multiple risks

Involves helping child reach his/her potential, modify environment to better match child’s, focus on promoting menial health, teaching behavioural skills, family education and support & genetic counselling/prevention strategies.
LD

LD definition
Persistent difficulties in acquisition and application of academic skills, create impairment in school, work, home & not due to low intelligence or other behavioural/emotional difficulties.

Genetic, Neurobiological (Differences in brain structure and function) & Environment (Stress, school factors, exposure to reading).
