Chapter 7- Functional Assessment and Analysis Flashcards
What are setting events?
Events which change the value of a consequence
Why do people behave the way they do?
Because it serves a purpose
Form of behavior
What we see, or the topography of the behavior. It can be measured quantitatively
Function of Behavior
to make a desired change in the environment
Six functions served by behavior
Gaining attention
Gaining a tangible object
Gain sensory stimulation
Allow individuals to get away from a situation that they may find unpleasant or aversive
Escape from internal pain or discomfort
Behavior Support Plan
Helps caregivers and educators detailed agreed-upon sets of procedures for changing inappropriate behavior.
Functional Assessment
A set of information-gathering strategies and instruments
Functional Analysis
A strategy of manipulating the student’s environment and observing the effect of the student’s behavior.
How do you gather information for a functional assessment?
By asking questions about a pattern of events or behaviors that consistently precede the occurrence of a behavior, asking if there is a pattern of events that consistently follow the occurrence of a behavior and who engages in these behaviors.
Analog Environment
Observations can be made under artificial conditions. An environment that is not natural
Controlled analog setting
Behavior may not be exposed to the same variables found in the natural environment
