Chapter 7: Exercise Phisology Flashcards
When does exercise hypernea occur
When both breathing rate and breathing depth increase when compared to rest
What are propriorecpetors function
They sense movement, send information from the limbs to the CNS and communicate to the respiratory control center in the medulla to increase breathing rate and depth
What are the two different mechanisms that help venous blood make its way back to the heart
Skeletal muscle pumps and respiratory muscle pumps
What is evaporative cooling
When the body releases sweat in attempts to cool the body since body temperature increases during exercise
What is convective cooling
When there is vasodilation of the cutaneous (skin) blood vessels to help cool the body
What happens to CO2 clearance and O2 consumption during exercise
CO2 clearance increases and O2 consumption increases
- expressed in liters per minute
- describes the amount of gases that are being dumped or kept in the body
- cannot be measured directly, but can be calculated
What is O2 consumption equation
(0.21 - exhaled O2 concentration) x TV x bpm
