Chapter 7 - Engines & APU Flashcards
How long are MAX CONT EGT limits inhibited ?
For 5min during T/O or G/A.
When is the SEI (standby engine indicator) automatically activated in-flight ?
- AC power lost
- EICAS failed
What is the start-valve cut-out N2 value ?
50% N2.
With selectors in AUTO, when is ignition activated ?
- LE slats extended
- EAI on
When does the APU fault light illuminate ?
- APU fault (resulting in shutdown)
- APU fuel valve disagreement
When performing a max thrust T/O, will the commanded thrust be 100% of the max thrust ?
No, it will be 1-2% lower until 65kts and increase then.
Does the A/T respond to manual set reference N1 values ?
No.
If the ambient temperature is higher than the selected assumed temperature, is D-TO indicated ?
No.
Until which altitude is reduced climb possible ?
12,000ft. The 1 or 2 indication disappears at 12,500ft.
Which has priority: APU bleed air or electrical power ?
Electrical power.
Until which altitude is APU bleed air available ?
17,000ft.
What energizes the APU start ?
The APU battery and the main battery.
If the APU selector is accidently moved to OFF, can the shutdown process be cancelled ?
Yes, if RUN is still illuminated and the switch is moved momentarily to START.
Will the APU shut down if in-flight the battery switch is moved OFF ?
No.
Will the APU go through a cooldown cycle if the battery switch is moved to OFF ?
Yes, but fire protection is not available.
Does the APU FAULT light illuminate momentarily during APU start or shutdown ?
Yes ! (Because the light also indicates a disagreement of the APU fuel valve).
Can the APU FAULT light be illuminated when the APU selector is moved to OFF ?
Yes, but only in the case of an APU fuel valve disagreement. Other faults are inhibited !
What is the meaning of the maximum N1 indication ?
The maximum rated thrust (for all thrust settings) in the current ambient conditions. This is equal to full forward thrust lever position.
Is the A/T available when the EEC goes in alternate mode for either engine ?
No.
What is the meaning of the L/R ENG LIM PROT message when the EEC is in alternate mode ?
Engine is in the overboost range.
Is thrust increased when the EEC go into alternate mode ?
Yes, but only after the thrust levers have been moved to idle.
Does the EEC provide EGT over-temperature protection ?
No.
How can approach idle be manually selected ?
By moving the start selectors to CONT.
What is the normal N2 value to position the fuel control switch to RUN ?
20% N2.
How is the minimum N2 value indicated during a ground or a xbleed in-flight start ?
By the magenta fuel on-command bug.
What are the normal starter duty limitations ?
- 5min max
- 1,5min OFF per minute ON.
What are the starter re-engagement limitations ?
- 0% recommended
- 0%-20% normal
- 20%-30% emergency (fire)
- > 30% may result in damage
When is the engine inflight start information displayed ?
- Engine was shutdown, AND
- both EICAS primary and secondary displays selected
How are the igniters powered ?
MAIN AC, with AC STANDBY BUS as backup
Where is FF measured ?
After the engine fuel shutoff valve.
How many fuel pumps increase the fuel pressure between the spar and the engine fuel shutoff valve ?
Two, the first stage and the second stage.
How is the fuel heated before entering the engine ?
By an fuel/oil heat exchanger.
Where is oil pressure measured ?
After the oil pump and oil filter.
Where is oil temperature measured ?
After the scavenge pump.
Are there any procedures for an engine low oil quantity ?
No.
What is BB vibration ?
Broadband vibration. Average vibration level is the source cannot be determined.
In general, how can engine vibrations be reduced ?
By descending and reducing speed.
