Chapter 7 - Clutter Reduction Flashcards
1
Q
Explain what clutter is and why it causes problems in radar system
A
Clutter is any unwanted echo that competes with target echos
It can manifest in both side-lobes and main-lobe
can be caused from echoes of land, sea, cloud and rain
Causes saturation, interference, false alarms and a reduction in detection range
2
Q
What techniques can be used to reduce clutter?
A
Careful sitting of antenna
Polarisation discrimination
Using more than one antenna beam
use of small resolution cell
Tilting antenna upwards
3
Q
What radar parameters affect the amount of clutter experienced?
A
Pulse duration
Beamwidth
frequency
polarisation
Antenna Height
