Q

Why would you use a long pulse duration in radar?

A

o Increased Range: A longer pulse duration increases the average power, extending the radar’s detection range.
o Improved Detection: Enhances the ability to detect weak targets by increasing the signal energy.

Q

Explain operation of magnetron in bullet points

A

Cathodes emits electrons that want to go to anode
large magnet bends electron stream to resonant cavities
as electrons pass through cavities they start to oscillate
oscillation freq is determined by inductance and capacitance of cavities
combines oscillations produce narrowband RF
