neuro gates on the spinal cord must “let in” pain. Not just a bio thing, but cult &social
Subjective- being busy with something can make us not notice pain
inattentional blindness
not noticing things bc you’re so focused
ex: basketball team/ bear test
change blindness
not noticing changes bc of visual disturbance
ex: looking away, whodunnit video
