Chapter 7- Attention and Memory Flashcards
Clive Wearing
has NO memory; has retrograde and anterograde amnesia
retrograde amnesia
lose past memories
anterograde amnesia
lose ability to form new memories
Cerebellum
Motor Memory
Hippocampus
memory forming
Amygdala
Fear learning
Filter Theory
attention is selective
caveat: gate theory, can’t ignore really severe pain, and social stimuli (not “choosing” to recognize facial expressions)
Gate Theory
neuro gates on the spinal cord must “let in” pain. Not just a bio thing, but cult &social
Subjective- being busy with something can make us not notice pain
inattentional blindness
not noticing things bc you’re so focused
ex: basketball team/ bear test
change blindness
not noticing changes bc of visual disturbance
ex: looking away, whodunnit video
Models for Memory
- Info processing Model
- Atkinson and Shiffrin’s
Information processing model
Sensory input–>
1) encoding [keyboard]
2) Storage [desktop], just a holding pen
3) retrieval [pc screen]
