Chapter 7 Flashcards
Introduction to Drag
What does vortexes produce?
Drag.
What are the different types of boundary layers? [TEST]
Laminar and turbulent.
How is it called where one type of boundary layer changes into the other one? [TEST]
Transition point.
What is the average thickness of the boundary layers?
From 2mm to 2cm depending on the speed.
Which of the following boundary layers will cause more drag, laminar or turbulent?
Turbulent.
Which of the following boundary layers will cause more energy, laminar or turbulent? [TEST]
Turbulent.
Characteristics of laminar and turbulent flows.
Laminar: thinner, less energy, less draggy.
Turbulent. thicker, more energy, more draggy.
What will favours viscosity?
Laminar flow.
What will favours speed?
Turbulent flow.
Which flow is prefered for airliners? Why?
Laminar flow because drag means fuel, so airliners wants wings with as less drag as possible.
