Chapter 1 Flashcards
Units and Definitions
How is FORCE measured and its equation?
In Newtons (N)
F = m x a
How is MOMENTUM measured and its equation?
In kg m/s
Momentum = m (mass) x v (volume)
ANGULAR and LINEAR
How is KINETIC ENERGY measured and its equation?
In Joules (J)
KE = 1/2 mv2
ENERGY
1 - Internal (fuel on board)
2 - Kinetic
3 - Potential
How is WORK measured and its equation?
In Joules (J)
Work = Force x Distance
IT IMPLIES MOVEMENTS, WHICH IS DISTANCE.
How is POWER measured and its equation?
In Watts (W)
Power = Work / Time
HOW FAST YOU DO THE WORK. ENERGY TRANSFERRED OVER TIME.
What does the 1st Newton’s law consists of?
A body will remain at rest or in uniform motion unless acted on by an external force.
What does the 2nd Newton’s law consists of?
The acceleration of a body in a straight line is proportional to the applied force and inversely proportional to the mass of the body.
What does the 3rd Newton’s law consists of?
To every action there is an equal and an opposite reaction.
What are the 4 forces implies in an aircraft when flying?
Lift,
Weight
(the largest ones)
Drag: Force opposes movement.
Thrust
(the shortest ones)
