Chapter 7 Flashcards
The movement of materials across the plasma membrane.
Transport
The cell does not spend energy moving materials; moves from high to low concentration.
Passive Transport
The cell expends energy (ATP); Cells force materials against the concentration; pumps move solute from low to high concentration.
Active Transport
Diffusion and osmosis.
Types of Passive Transport
The solution with more dissolve solute.
Hypertonic
The solution with less dissolved solute
Hypotonic
2 solutions have the same solute concentration
Isotonic
Proteins in the membrane of the cell aid in the transport of materials, without using cellular energy; an opening is provided.
Facilitated Diffusion
Movement of materials into the cell by engulfing it and creating vesicles or vacuoles.
Endocytosis
Movement of materials out of the cell by joining vesicle or vacuoles with the plasma membrane to expel the contents.
Exocytosis
