Chapter 7 Flashcards
Two sectors of learner preparation
- capture learners undivided attention before presenting the skill 2. introduce the skill in a way that stimulates interest
Positive aspects of instructions
Ideal to give information about movement to be performed, and when to perform it
Negative aspects of instructions
there may be an overload of information, some movements are difficult to explain, can emphasize wrong focus
Considerations when giving verbal instructions
check for understanding
Internal focus
inside of the body, can decrease performance, ex: swing your arms in a pendulum motion
External focus
Outside of the body, focus is something to favour, ex: swing club in pendulum motion
Verbal cues
be concise accurate, limit the number, use some cues repeatedly
Demonstration
showing a learner a new skill can facilitate learning more than explaining it
Mirror neurons
nerve cells that fire when we perform an action or if we watch someone perform that same action
Discovery learning
learner tries to solve a movement problem by exploring various task solutions
Guided discovery
Variation of discovery learning, step by step process that leads to the discovery of a concept or principle
