Chapter 7 Flashcards
What is autotroph
Self feeders or producers
Heterotrophs
Is other feeders or consumers
Cellular respiration
Uses food energy to form cells activities glucose ~ ATP
Aerobic respiration
Requires oxygen more efficient
Anaerobic respiration
Does not require oxygen
What are the overview equations for photosynthesis and cellular respiration
Photosynthesis- 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + light –> C6+H12+O6+ 6 O2
Cellular respiration- C6+H12+O6+6O2 –> 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + light
What is redox reaction ?
Oxidation - loss of one or more electrons
Reduction - gain of one or more electrons
What molecules shuttle electrons during cellular respiration
NAPH
electron transport chain
What is the principle behind the electron transport chain
Will take the energy stored in NAPH and FADH2 during the citric acid cycle and convert it to chemical bond energy in the form of ATP
Where is the electron transport chains
Inner mitochondrial membrane
What are the two ways ATP is actually phosphorylated in a cell?
When the NADH and FADH2 is transferring their electrons to molecules near the beginning of the transport chain
What are the four basic stages of cellular respiration
Glycolysis
Pyruvic acid
Citric acid
Electron transport chain
Where do these stages take place in the cell
Cytoplasm and mitochondria
Which stage produces the most ATP
Electron transport chain
What are the inputs and outputs for each stage
Glycolysis -
Input. Glucose
Output. 2 ATP 2 NADH
pyruvic acid -
Input. 2 pyruvic acid
Output. 2 CO2 2 NADH
Citric acid -
Input. 2 2C acetic acid 2 ADP 6 NAD+ 2 FAD
Output. 4 CO2 2 ATP 6 NADH 2 FADH2
