What is Osteoporosis? What causes it? What are its symptoms? Who is at risk?
Osteoporosis is a disease that affects older people. Old age causes it. It’s symptoms include brittle bones. Women who have gone through menopause are at risk because they have stopped producing estrogen. So, their bones aren’t as dense anymore.
What is the Hyoid bone? Where is it located? What is its function? Why is it unique?
The hyoid bone is located underneath the mandible. It does not articulate (form a joint) with any other bone. It’s function is to be the attachment for muscles that allow you to swallow. It is very unique as IT DOES NOT ARTICULATE with any bones at all.
Explain why the c1 and c2 vertebrae are different from the other vertebrae in their function.
C2 has a part that sticks up through c1. This allows for turning of the head. These two vertebrae are named ATLAS (c1) and AXIS (c2).
