Q

Briefly, explain the pathway for the deoxygenated blood and oxgyenated blood?

A

Deoxgyenated: After blood travels through the veins, it is returned to the right side of the heart where it pumped to the lungs to be oxgyenated

Oxgyenated: Once the blood in oxgyenated again by the lungs, the oxgyenated blood is then carried by the arteries to the left side of the heart where it is once again pumped to the rest of the body.

Q

Define the heart?

A

A four-chambered structure composed pre-dominantly of cardiac muscle.

NOTE: We often speak of the heart as a singly pump, supporting a single circulatory system. But the truth is that, the heart is actually composed of two pumps supporting two circulations in series.

Q

Explain what is the pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation?

A

Pulmonary (deoxygnated): The right side of the heart accepts deoxgyenated blood, returning from the blood, through the vena cava and then moves it to the lungs via the pulmonary arteries

Systemic circulation (oxgyenated): The left side of the heart accepts oxgyenated blood, returning from the lung, through the pulmonary vein and then moves it to the body via the aorta.
