What are Specialized Terms?
technical words that are content specific and often abstract
How can we develop word knowledge?
-gradually through repeated oral and writing exposures to it
What are the 4 Levels of Word Knowledge?
1) unknown word
2) initial recognition
3) partial word knowledge
4) full word knowledge
What is the unknown word?
children don’t recognize the word
What is the initial recognition?
have seen or heard word/can pronounce it but don’t know meaning
What is partial word knowledge?
know one meaning and can use it in a sentence
What is full word knowledge?
know more than one meaning and can use it several ways
What are Word-Study Concepts we should know?
