COGNITIVE DISSONANCE
psychological tention that occurs when thoughts, feelings, behaviours dont align with eachother.

-changing thought to align with behaviour
-changing behaviour to align with thoughts
COGNITIVE BIASES
unconscious, systematic tendencies to interpret info in a way that is neither rational nor based on objective reality.
different types of cognitive biases:
confirmation bias, halo effect, false-consensus bias, self-serving bias, actor-observer bias
Confirmation bias
search for info that supports belief or behaviour and ignore contradicting behaviour
Actor-Observer bias
blaming others or external factors instead of own behaviour-attribute own actions to external factors and situational causes while attributing other peoples actions to internal factors.
self-serving bias
good=own fault, bad=other fault. attribute positive success to internal character and actions, attribute failures to external factors or situational causes
False-Consensus bias
same thought process as me. overestimate the degree to which other people share the same ideas and attitudes we do
Halo effect
tendency for the impression we form about one quality of a person to influence our overall beliefs about the person in other respects.
