Chapter 6- Learning Flashcards
Type of learning that involves stimulus-response connections
Conditioning
Simple form of learning in which a stimulus calls forth a response that is usually associated with another stimulus
Classical Conditioning
Stimulus that a response that is automatic, not learned
Unconditioned Stimulus (US)
Automatic response to the unconditioned stimulus
Unconditioned response (UR)
Learned stimulus for the unconditional response
Conditioned stimulus (CS)
Learned response to a stimulus that was previously neutral
Conditioned response (CR)
Learned avoidance of a particular food
Taste Aversion
Conditioned stimulus is disconnected from the unconditioned stimulus; conditioned response no longer occurs
Extinction
Display responses that were previously extinct (may be weaker)
Spontaneous Recovery
Responding the same way to stimuli that seem similar
Generalization
Act of responding differently to stimuli that are not similar to each other
Discrimination
A person is exposed to harmless stimuli until the fear of the stimulus is extinguished
Flooding
People are taught relaxation techniques and are gradually introduced to stimulus
Systematic Desensitization
Something that produces a reaction/ response
Stimulus
