Chapter 6- Learning Flashcards
Stimulus
Something that produces a reaction or response
Conditioning
Type of learning that involves stimulus response connections
Classical Conditioning
Simple form of learning in which a stimulus calls forth a response that is usually associated with another stimulus
Pavlov’s Dogs
Studied salivation in dogs
Dogs would salivate to sounds they heard before feeding
Wondered if dogs would learn to salivate to a certain sound
(US) Unconditioned Stimulus
Stimulus that causes natural automatic response
Not learnt
(UR) Unconditioned Response
Automatic response to the (US)
(CS) Conditioned Response
Learned Stimulus for unconditional response (UR)
(CR) Conditioned Response
Learned response from something that was already neutral
Taste Aversion
Learned avoidance of a particular food
Extinction
Conditioned stimulus that is disconnected from rage unconditioned stimulus
Spontaneous Recovery
Display responses that were previously extinct.
Generalization
Responding to stimulus the same way to different things
Discrimination
Act of responding differently to stimulus to non similar
Flooding
A person is exposed to the harmless stimulus until the fear is gone
Effective and unpleasant
Systematic Desensitized
People are taught relaxation techniques and are then gradually introduced to stimulus
Longer and not as unpleasant
