What is fluid intelligence?
Fluid intelligence is the ability to reason, see relationships, see abstractly, and hold information while working on a problem.
What is crystallized intelligence?
Crystallized intelligence is one’s accumulated knowledge of the world and the procedures or mental models one has developed from past learning and experience.
What are the steps of dynamic testing?
- A test - that shows me where I come up short.
- Dedication to becoming more competent - using reflection, practice, spacing.
- Test again - to see where I have improved and where I need to get better.
What is structure building?
The act of extracting salient ideas and constructing a coherent mental framework out of them.
What is the difference between high structure builders and low structure builders?
- High structure builders develop the skill to identify foundational concepts and their key building blocks and to sort information whether it adds to one’s knowledge or can be cast aside.
- Low structure builders struggle with knowing what information fits in and what should be discarded.
How do you strengthen learning?
- Cultivating the habit of reflecting on one’s experiences, of making them into a story, strengthens learning.
