Chapter 6 Core Training Concepts for Performance Enhancement Flashcards
What is Core?
Defined by the structures that make up the lumbo pelvic hip complex
What is Core Stability?
LPHC stability comprised of local or intersegmental stability, global stability, and global mobility
What is Local Core Stabilizers?
Muscles that attach directly to the vertebrae
What are Global Core Stabilizers?
Muscles that attach from the pelvis to the spine
What is the Movement System?
Includes muscles that attach the spine and/or pelvis to the extremities
What is the Drawing-In Maneuver
A maneuver used to recruit the local core stabilizers by drawing the navel in towards your spine
What is Bracing?
Occurs when you have contracted both the abdominal, lower back, and buttock muscles at the same time
What is Functional Strength?
The ability of the neuromuscular system to produce dynamic, multiplanar eccentric, concentric, and isometric stabilization actions quickly and efficiently during functional movements
