executive departments of the federal government

government foundations
- foundations seperate the organization from the remainder of government
allow government to support activities while being removed from decision making
public corporations
-organized like private corporations except board members are public appointees and stock is held by the department of treasury or another executive department
quasi governmental organizations
-portions of their boards are appointed by private sector organizations
some stock may be owned by cooperating private sector organizations
- their employees are generally not classified as public employees
standard operating procedures
- reduce the amount of time spent processing each new situation and developing a response
- encourage equality and fairness to clients
are generally benificial but may also act as barrier to effective implementations - SOPs aid in the implementation of established program, but can be barrier to change and the implementation of new programs
