A

Officers were required to randomly select one of three options to resolve misdemeanor level family violence cases: Arrest, Mediation or Requiring offender to leave home for an 8hour period.

Those tho we’re not arrested committed almost twice as many subsequent assaults on their victims as did those who were arrested.

The study concluded with the finding that arrest alone produced a deterrent effect
