Abetting
The verbal action of contributing to a crime by encouraging the perpetuator of something illegal. Ex: Bob eggs on a fight, so he is guilty of Abetting.
Absolute liability offences
There is no defence possible for a Absolute liability offence.
Accessory after the fact
A person/ group of people that help or know about a crime the perpetuator has committed or help the perpetuator in evading the police.
Actus Reus
The latin word meaning “The guilty action”. This is referring to the physical act of committing a crime
Ex: The action of stealing a car.
Aiding
Aiding is the action helping a perpetrator to commit a crime. Ex: A person who provides a perpetrator of a crime with lock picks.
Attempt
Attempt is when a person has the intent to commit a crime but for some reason does not carry it through so that the crime is unsuccessful.
Conspiracy
Conspiracy is when two or more people make a verbal agreement to commit a crime. Whether the crime is carried out or not is irrelevant, the people who made the agreement can still be charged with conspiracy.
Counselling
Counselling is when a person advises/ persuades/ makes the plans for someone els to commit a crime. (they are essentially the mastermind of a crime).
Crime
An act or omission of an act which is deemed wrong by the government so much so that such act is punishable by the state.
Criminal Law
A category of law that prohibits and punishes any acts that injure people, property and society as a whole.
Criminal negligence
blatant disregard for the lives/ safety of others, and possible invoking harm or death onto others.
Due diligence
The argument in a court that the accused took every possible reasonable precaution to avoid committing a certain offence.
General intent
The act of committing a wrongful act with the no other ulterior motives but the wrongful act itself.
