Mirror self recognition test:
To test if children can recognize self/ have developed self awarness. (18-24 months)
What are the types of self and differences between them?
Actual ( who we actually are), ideal ( who we want to be), and ought( who we beleive others want us to be).
What is the difference between individualistic and collectivist cultures regarding self concept?
Individualistic= importance on personal goals
Collectivist= importance on interdependent relationships.
Socail comparison theory:
Upward/ downward socail comparison- based off of reference group.
4 dimensions of self attributions:
external, internal and unstable+ stable.
Explanitory styles:
Optomistic=external/unstable factors for setbacks.
Pessimistic= internal/ stable factors for setbacks
Dunning Kruger effect:
Fail to recognize our lack of skill+ others ability.
Impact Bias:
overestimation of intesnity/ duration of emotional reactions- focalism.
Delayed gratification:
Ability to defer something desiriable. Future predictor for success. Marshmellow test
Impression managment:
concsious efforts to influence others imnpressions of oneself.
What are the 4 strategies of impression managment:
- Ingratiation( planned strategies), 2. self promotion, 3. negative acknoledgement, and 4. supplication (presenting as weak for favours)
