Chapter 6 Flashcards
What are x-ray production technical factors?
- kVp
- mA
X-ray production steps?
- filament is heated
- electrons are boiled off
- electrons hit target (anode)
- interactions happen like
- characteristic interaction
- bremstrahlung interaction
what is characteristic interaction?
when an electron enters an atom striking an orbital electron if the binding energy is greater than the orbital electron
what is bremsstrahlung interaction?
the interaction misses all orbital electrons and interacts with the nucleus which is then released as a brems photon
what binding energy will produce a k-characteristic photon?
70 kVp or greater?
what are beam quantities?
- beam quantity
- beam quality
What is beam quantity? and what affects it?
total # of photons in a beam which is affected by mAs, kVp, distance and filtration
If mA increases …. beam quantity…?
increase
If kVp increases … beam quantity…?
increase
If distance increases … beam quantity…?
decrease
If filtration increases … beam quantity…?
decrease
If generator type increases … beam quantity …?
Increases
If mA increases … bean quality …?
No effect
If kVp increases … bean quality …?
Increases
If filtration increases … bean quality …?
Increases
If generator increases … bean quality …?
Increases
What is beam quality and what affects it?
It’s the penetrating power of the x-ray beam and its affected by kVp, and filtration
