chapter 6 Flashcards
Hybrid learning
is an educational approach that combines face-to-face classes and online learning.
Hybrid learning tools include
videoconferencing, learning management systems (LMSs),online exercises, online discussion forums, pre-recorded video instruction, and others.
Characteristics of hybrid learning environments
- A balanced mix of digital and traditional instruction
- Regular formative and summative assessments to track student performance
- Student progress is continually analyzed to deliver customized instruction
- Small group work to maximize personal interactions
- Students are exposed to various teaching methods and learning modalities
- A personalized learning experience
Effective hybrid classrooms must contain components such as:
- Videoconferencing and collaboration tools:
Students and teachers must be able to connect easily, clearly hear and see each other and interact automatically. - Learning management systems:
LMSs empower teachers to create lessons and monitor progress and make it easy for students to find and complete assigned work.
The ideal LMS is easy to install, simple to use and naturally secure. - High-quality cameras:
Video tools aren’t enough in isolation; students and teachers also need high-quality cameras that include features such as automatic lighting adjustment and the ability to create preset camera angles. This allows teachers to easily move around their home or classroom without interrupting their lesson to adjust the camera focus. - Computer Tools:
such as Desktop computer or laptop to access LMS.
What are the Advantages of Hybrid Education?
hybrid education takes and combines the best aspects of in-person learning and online learning. So, if it is done correctly and well, hybrid education can bring about a learning method without the weaknesses of the two separate methods.
the benefits of hybrid education:
- A flexible way of learning and teaching
- Increased accessibility
- A shift in a student’s responsibilities and abilities
- Efficient use of resources
- Benefits of synchronous learning opportunities come with the package
Overall Goals of Hybrid Learning
1- Motivating students to learn
2-Improving academic performance
3- Developing digital age competencies
4-Fostering life-long learning
5-Enhancing teacher effectiveness
Blended learning
is a method of teaching that integrates technology and digital media with traditional instructor-led classroom activities, giving students more flexibility to customize their learning experiences.
A Framework for Creating the Right Blend
The framework serves as guide and tool that enables designers to ask the right questions and organize their thinking processes when planning a blended learning program.
The Octagonal Framework
(framrwork dimention)
The framework has eight dimensions:
institutional,
pedagogical
technological,
interface design,
evaluation,
management
resource support
, ethical
The Octagonal Framework : institutional
-administrative affairs
-academic affairs
-student services
The Octagonal Framework : pedagogical
-goal analysis
-audience analysis
-content analysis
-medium analysis
-design approach
-methods and strategies
The Octagonal Framework : technological
-infrastructure planning
-hardware
-software
The Octagonal Framework : interface design
-page and site design
-content design
-navigation
-accessibility
-usability testing
The Octagonal Framework : evaluation
-assessment of learners
-evaluation of the instruction and learning environment
