MOA: Produces antipsychotic effects by blocking the postsynaptic dopamine receptors in the brain.
Uses: Schizophrenia, psychotic disorders
AE: Cardiovascular effects, CNS effects, extrapyramidal symptoms, dermatologic effects, GU effects, metabolic and respiratory effects
BBW: withdrawl symptoms in newborns, risk of death in older adults with dementia
clozapine (Clozaril)
Class: Atypical Antipsychotics
clozapine (Clozaril) MOA: Uses: AE: BBW:
MOA: Blocks the dopamine receptors in the brain, depressing the RAS, also blocks serotonin and glutamate receptors
Uses: Schizophrenia, psychosis (recurrent SI), schizoaffective disorder
AE: Cardiovascular/CNS/hematologic/metabolic effects
BBW: Increases seizure risk, fatal agranulocytosis, hyperglycemia
