s8 - Access to services
A victim or member of a victims family who has Welfare, health counselling medical or legal needs arising from an offence. They should have access to those services
highlights the need for accurate CSV1 for first appearance
S12 - Info about proceedings
A victim must, as soon as practicable, be given information by investigating authorities or as the case requires, by members of the court staff
A) progress of investigation
B) Charges laid or reasons for not laying charges
C) Victims role in the prosecution etc
S17 - Info to be ascertained from victim (VIS)
Any physical injury, emotional harm suffered by victim or by means of the offence
Any loss of damage to property
Any effects of the offence on the victim
VIS for child or young person
S17 ensures that a child or yp who is present, involved as a victim or witness or as the child of a victim, should be included in the VIS process the same way as primary victim.
When do you need to have the VIS prepared by?
It is mandatory that the O/C file ensures a VIS is available for the 2nd Appearance
S29 - Specified Offence
a) offence of sexual nature
b) Serious Assault
c) Serious injury to a person , Death of a person or rendered incapable
d) an offence of another kind that has led the victim having ongoing fear on reasonable grounds -
i) for their safety or security
ii) Physical safety or security of 1 or more members of immediate family
S29A Commissioner of Police to determine weather offence affecting a victim is a specified offence
ASAP after a victim comes into contact with NZP, the commissioner of Police must determine whether the offence that affected the victim is a specified offence.
The duty of the Commissioner of Police contained in 29A is delegated to all Police Staff for completing .
S30 Victims view about release or bail
This section applies if -
a) the victim is a vic of a specified offence
b) the persons accused of the offence applies for court bail
2) If this section applies, the prosecutor MUST -
a) make all reasonable efforts to ascertain any view the victim has about the accused
b) inform the court of any views ascertained under paragraph a)

Fleeing Driver Policy - what is the overriding principle?
Safety is success
After each fleeing driver event - is it - Appropriate Lawful Justified Compliant with Police instructions Lessons learnt
Overall Principles ?
Safety of public, vehicle occupants and staff take precedence over immediate apprehension of offender
A driver failing to stop is not sufficient reason to start pursuit
Investigation is preferred over commencement of pursuit

Decision to stop a driver?
As part of ongoing TENR, your risk assessment should include:
The initial threat posed by the vehicles occupants
The necessity to immediately apprehend the driver and or passenger
the risk of harm to any person created by a pursuit
If information is available indicates a driver is likely to flee, advise comms of?
The reason for wanting to stop the driver
the intention to signal the driver to stop
whether a pursuit is going to be initiated if the driver fails to stop
Initial patter to comms when a driver fails to stop
Comms (callsign) in pursuit -
Initial reason for signalling the driver to stop
Direction on Road
Action on abandoning a Pursuit
Acknowledge the direction to abandon
Immediately reduce speed to increase distance
deactivate warning devices once below posted speed limit
Stop as soon as it is safe to do so
Advise the pursuit controller that they are stationary and state specific location
Stop Actively searching for the offending driver unless specifically authorised by the pursuit controller
Resume normal duties
When must the fleeding driver notification be completed by?
Before the end of shift (or with approval, within 5 days and before going on RDO or Leave)
Subsequent Fleeing Driver Events post abandonment
Permission must be obtained from Pursuit Controller before:
Signalling the driver to stop and if permission is obtained
Commencing a pursuit in the event the driver fails to stop
Who may authorise a non compliant vehicle stop?
