What are the types of writing?
Argumentative, informative, descriptive, and narrative.
What is argumentative writing?
Typically persuasive. It includes evidence, opinions, subjective language and suggestive rhetoric.
What is informative writing?
Educational. It uses fact based information, definitions, and instructional based rhetoric.
What is descriptive writing?
Gives readers details through the five senses. Uses significant imagery and language that is appealing to the senses.
What is narrative writing?
Tells a story. Characterized by character development, event chronology, dialogue and story line.
What is an example of a checklist to ensure your writing meets key criteria?
Is the chosen writing mode correct for the purpose of the writing?
Are the characteristics of the writing mode complementary to the writing topic?
Is the intended audience taken into consideration in regards to interests or demographics?
Is the writing executed in a way that is understood and makes sense?
What is the most important thing to ensure in your writing?
The writing’s main point is clearly made and the supporting information is included in a supportive and clear way. State your main idea, organize the main idea and the supporting information in a way that clearly makes sense, use clear and proper English and ensure strong supporting details.
What are transitions?
Important part of making sure the piece is fluid, organized, and clearly delivered. The 7 types are general order, chronological order, numerical order, cause and effect, compare and contrast, spatial order, summary order.
What is style choice?
It pertains to the target audience. Diction, figurative language and sentence structure are points of style choice.
What should all sentences include?
All include a beginning, middle, and end. The beginning of the sentence should introduce the main point or purpose. The middle of the sentence should include supporting details or evidence. The ending of a sentence should summarize the sentence, highlight the main point or reiterate the main idea.
What is prewriting?
When the writer brainstorms what they wish to write about, research topics if it is required, organize their thoughts, plan out what they intend to write and finally start on the rough draft portion of the writing.
What is the writing stage?
The step in which writing the full literary piece takes place.
What is the revising stage?
When the writer reviews what he or she has written. Changes are commonly made, such as adding content, taking out content and otherwise rewriting content.
What is the editing stage?
When errors in formatting, grammar, punctuation, and spelling are addressed and corrected.
What is the completion or publishing stage?
The step in which the final copy is submitted. This may mean it is given to a teacher or professor, a publisher, an employer or another relevant individual.
