Self-awareness

Self-discrepancy theory
- awareness that actual self is discrepant from ideal self
self-perception theory
when attitudes are uncertain, we look at our behaviour
over-justification effect
-extrinsic rewards may decrease enjoyment of an activity
looking glass self
-we incorporate others perceptions of us into our self concept
social comparison theory
we learn about our own abilities and attitudes by comparing ourselves to others
