Define marketing research
The process of planning, collecting, and analyzing data relevant to a marketing decision
What is the role of marketing research?
Used to better understand the connections between marketing actions and consumer need. It is also used to help make decisions but it is not the only basis for a decision.
Steps in marketing research
- Identify the problem
- Design the research
- Collect the data
- Analyze the data
- Present the report
- Provide follow up
Step 1 - Identify the problem
The most important step. Must be differentiated between a management decision and a research problem.
Define Marketing research objective
The specific info needed to solve a marketing research issue. Developed as a series of questions that decision makers need to know to make a marketing decision
Step 2 - Design the research
Creation of the road map that specifies how to go about answering the question and achieving the objectives.
Define Secondary information
data previously collected for any purpose other than the one at hand.
Define Primary information
information that is collected for the first time and is used for solving the particular problem under investigation.
