Chapter 5 - Lighting and Technology Flashcards
Natural light
Light from the sun, has a full spectrum of colors, makes colors appear rich and vibrant
Orientation
The direction of the light, also takes into account reflected surfaces
Luminance
The intensity of light in a given surface or area
Combustion lighting
Firelight, candlelight, lanterns, luminaries
Artificial lighting
Fluorescent, incandescent, and LED
Carbon footprint
The total amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted over the life of a product
Fluorescent light
Produced by an arc between two electrodes inside a glass tube filled with very low pressure murmuring vapor, relatively shadowless even light, reduces light-cause fatigue
Compound fluorescent lamp
CFL, compressed into the size of a standard issue incandescent lamp, do not use for dimming, more expensive up front
Colored fluorescent lighting
Cold cathode lighting or neon
Incandescent light
Produced by heating a tungsten filament with an electrical current until it glows
