Chapter - 5 Human Movement Science Flashcards
Anatomic Locations
Refers to specific locations of landmark in the body
Biomechanics
The science concerned with the internal and external force acting upon the body and the effects produces by these forces
Superior
Positioned above a point of reference
Inferior
Positioned below a point of reference
Proximal
Positioned nearest to the center of the body, or point of reference bdv
Distal
Positioned farthest from the middle of body, or point of reference
Anterior (ventral)
On the front of the body
Posterior (or dorsal)
On the back of the body
Medial
Positioned near the middle of the body
Lateral
Positioned toward the outside
Contralateral
On the opposite side of the body
Ipsilateral
On the same side of the body
Anatomic positions
The body is standing erect with the arms at the side and the palms forward
What are the 3 planes of motion
Sagittal - imaginary bisector that divides the body into right and left halves
Frontal - imaginary bisector that divides the body into front and left halves
Transverse - a imaginary bisector divides the body into top and bottom halves
Flexion
A bending motion in which the relative angle between two adjacent segment decreases
