chapter - 5 Histology And Life Processes Flashcards
define cell
Cell is a protoplasm surrounded by cell membrane, which is structural and functional unit of life.
Define tissue
Tissue is a group of similar cells which together performs certain task or functions.
Types of tissue
- Plant tissue
- Animal Tissue
definePlant tissue
(Meristematic and Permanent tissue.)
Plant tissue are the group of plant cells that have similar structure and fucntion.
define Meristematic tissue
Meristematic tissues are the group of active cells that have the capacity of active cell division.
These cells are responsible for growth of plant.
- Apical meristem
- Lateral meristem
- Intercalary meristem
Define apical meristem with its function.
Apical meristem are the type of meristematic tissue that are located at the growing points of plant i.e. root and shoot of plants.
These meristematic tissue are responsible for growth of height of plant.
Define Lateral meristem with its function.
Lateral meristem are the type of meristematic tissue that is responsible for the the growth of grith or diameter of the plant. They are laterally located.
Define Intercalary meristem with its function.
Intercalary meristem are the type of meristem that are located between the permanent tissues and apical meristem which are responsible for the growth of length of axis plants.
Define permanent tissue.
Permanent tissue are the group of plant cells that don’t have the ability of active cell division and are differentiated to carry out different functions of plant.
Types of permanent tissue.
- Simple permanent tissue
- Complex permanent tissue
- Special permanent tissue
Simple permanent tissue
-Parenchyma
-Collenchyma
-Sclerenchyma
Short note about Parencyma
Parenchyma consists of thin-walled living cells usually of oval or spherical shape.
These are responsible for producing and storing food.
Short note on Collenchyma
Collenchyma is the cells with extra deposition of cellulose at the corner of the cell.
1. Collenchyma supports plasticity and elasticity.
2. Collenchyma contains chloroplast which is responsible for photosynthesis.
3. Collenchyma resists the tearing effect of the wind due to its presence in the margin.
Short note on Sclerenchyma.
Sclerenchyma are the dead cells with cell wall. It is mainly responsible for providing mechanical strength to plant.
Complex permanent tissues.
- Xylem
- Phloem
xylem - it transports water and minerals from root to leaves
phloem - it transports food from leaves to different parts of plant
