what happens after fertilisation?
the zygote divides and multiplies to form a ball of cells called an embryo
what happens in the oviduct?
the oviduct has little hair called cilia which push the embryo along towards the uterus
what happens in the uterus?
the embryo sinks into the blood lining. this is called IMPLANTATION.
where does the embryo then develop?
inside a bag of fluid called the amnion, surrounded and protected by amniotic fluid which protect it from shocks.
what does the placenta do?
substances are exchanged between the mother’s and the fetus’ blood.
nutrients + oxygen —-> from mother to baby
carbon dioxide —–> from baby to mother
how is the fetus connected to the placenta?
it is connected to the placenta by the umbilical cord.
