Chapter 1 - BREEDING & VARIATION Flashcards
Asexual Reproduction
only one parent, so all the genes from that parent go to the offspring
Chromosomes
are lengths of dna that are present in sex cells, which are copied and passed down to the offspring
genes
are parts of chromosomes with a special pattern of dna, which give a code that builds a certain type of body cell
selective breeding
humans deliberately choosing two animals or plants to breed together to create offspring with desirable characteristics
fertilisation
a male and female sex cell join together
inherited characteristics
a feature that is passed down from parents to their offspring
clones
offspring that is genetically identical to it’s parent, because of asexual reproduction
asexual reproduction
only one parent is involved, so all of the genes from that parent go to the offspring
environmental variation
means differences that are caused by something after the offspring was born
variation
differences between plants or animals of the same species
characteristics
particular features of plants or animals
