Chapter 5 Flashcards
What is the name for what B-cells do?
Colonial selection
What are plasma cells?
Clones of selected B-cells with complementary antibodies to pathogens antigen
What is it called when plasma cells stick pathogens together?
Agglutination
How can you release the organelles from a cell
Use a homogeniser
What is a antibody?
A protein that binds to antigen to kill pathogens
What solution is the tissues placed in before cell fractionation and why?
Cold- to reduce enzyme activity that might break down organelles
Isotonic- to prevent organelles bursting or shrinking
Buffered- so that the pH does not fluctuate, so no organelles structure can change or to stop any affect of the function of enzymes
What are the difference types of T-cells and what do they do?
T-helper cells- activates B- cells/cytotic T-cells
Cytotic T-cells- kill pathogen
What do B-cells do?
The B-cell with the complementary antibody forms antigen- antibody complex and clones itself to make many copies of plasma cells
What do plasma cells do?
They make monoclonal antibodies to make a antigen-antibody complex with antigen
Stick the pathogens together
And the phagocytes destroy many pathogens at one
Then memory B-cells are made
