Chapter 5/6 Flashcards
What is the study of tissues?
Histology
Four Families of Tissue
Epithelial, Muscle, Nervous, Connective
What is the location of Epithelial tissues?
Covers the body, lines the organs, cavities, tubes, ducts
Functions of Epithelial tissues?
Filter, secretes, reabsorbs materials
What is the most abundant and widely distributed tissue?
Connective tissue
Functions of Connective tissues?
Connects and supports structures. Protects and cushions organs
Types of connective tissue?
Adipose, Compact bone, Cartilage, Blood
Adipose function?
Stores energy, insulates
Compact bone function?
support and protect, fat and mineral storage
Cartilage function?
Supports while being flexible, absorb compression from between bones
Blood function?
Key to transport, red and white blood cells, platelets
What are the types of cartilage?
Elastic Cartilage, Fibro Cartilage, Hyaline Cartilage
Muscle tissue is located where?
Walls of hollow organs, heart and skeleton
Muscle tissue function?
Movement, posture, pump blood
Types of muscle tissue?
Skeletal, Cardiac, Smooth
Skeletal muscle has how many nucleus?
More than one
Skeletal muscle is voluntary or involuntary?
Voluntary
Cardiac muscle is found where?
The heart
Cardiac muscle have how many nucleus?
One
Cardiac muscle is involuntary or voluntary?
Involuntary
Smooth muscle have how many nucleus?
One
Smooth muscle is found where?
Hollow organs, stomach
Smooth muscle is voluntary or involuntary?
Involuntary
Nervous tissue functions?
Generate and transmit nerve impulse
What is fluid connective tissue?
Blood
What is connective proper tissue?
Areolar, Adipose, Reticular, Dense regular, Dense irregular, Dense elastic
What is supporting connective tissue?
Hyaline Cartilage, Fibro Cartilage, Elastic Cartilage, Compact Bone
